about We Become More
we become more mission statement:
Learn, volunteer, play, create, build community, and educate!
We Become More is working to beautify and improve our community through a number of projects;
We are working to make these projects sustainable and regenerative so that doing business today can beautify impact future generations.
here is one major project in the works:
w.b.m. - c.i.d.
alley pilot program.
We Become More is working with the Community improvement district in the Northeast Kansas city area on a pilot program to radically change the worst alleys in the northeast! Many of the alleys in the northeast have been neglected and are now very unsafe spaces used primarily to dump garbage, drug use, prostitution, and other nefarious actions.
We have been working on the alley behind el paso del norte on independence avenue to start changing that!
We are educating the community and members of the C.i.d. about the various resources in these alleys by collecting and sorting all the "trash" into categories: Building materials, Clothing, compostable, recyclable, hazardous, and other waste.
We are then showing how we can create raised garden beds with dumped building materials and tires for example!
we have collected multiple large bags of clothing and have successfully cleaned and donated almost 100% of this clothing! The clothing that was too damaged to donate was able to be reused as compost to help retain moisture for the garden beds in the alley!
we have sorted through the garbage dumped in the alley to collect the glass and aluminum to ensure proper recycling of these valuable materials.
We have laid mulch down the entire path and shut the alley off to traffic and created a safe walking/bike path for the community!
another added benefit of this is that there is no longer any water pooling at the end of the alley after a heavy rain, reducing the flooding burden on the city, and allowing us to hold water in the alley so we don't need to water the flowers manually! The flowers we planted growing in the alley continue to inspire a positive attitude and seem to be helping to improve the mental state of the people who use this space the most.
by talking with and helping to inspire the homeless and addicts in the alley who had been using the alley as a toilet, we have made the alley into an incredible space that no longer takes your breath away (due to the smell) when you walk it. This alley now gives a breathe of fresh air as you take a stroll through nature in the middle of the city!
as an added benefit, we have removed plants growing in the cracks of the sidewalks, and overgrown paths and used them as compost for the garden beds! This also helps to prevent herbicides from being used that would pollute our water!
We have taken time to build relationships with the individuals in the alley so that we can get a better understanding 0f their needs, and the situation they find themselves in. With their help this alley is slowly becoming a beautiful safe space for the entire community!
Although we have been able to procure most of the needs of this alley, this project requires a lot of time spent in the alley, and There are several other alleys that need this same help, which is one of the reasons we need your support!
donating directly to We Become more, or purchasing Become More products directly funds this project and allows us to continue this work!
We would also love for you to volunteer with us!!
Thank you so much for your support!<3
A Project that cost nothing!
(anyone can do!)
the S.mile a.nd w.ave initiative is probably the simplest form of volunteering to build community! simply
Walk around smiling and waving at everyone you see! this silly behavior easily and effectively improves a persons day and builds community!
This is super easy to do while walking your dog, or during your morning jog!
We suggest Dressing up in fun clothing for improved results! :D
